Frequently asked questions

The questions we get most. Direct answers.

The Brand

What is NINE DIALED?

A lifestyle brand for the home espresso enthusiast. We make apparel, accessories, and editorial art prints for the people whose morning is built around the pull. We are not a coffee company. We do not sell beans. We do not run a café. We make objects for the home bar.

Why is it called NINE DIALED?

Nine refers to the nine bars of pressure that define espresso extraction — the universal standard. Dialed refers to dialing in: the practice of adjusting grind, dose, and yield until the shot tastes right. Together they name the discipline.

Who runs it?

A small, intentional team operating out of Palm Bay, Florida. Design, editorial, photography, and customer service are handled in-house. Production runs through a U.S. print-on-demand partner. We do not plan to scale headcount beyond what the work requires.

Are you affiliated with a roastery or equipment brand?

No. NINE DIALED is independent. We write editorially about specific roasters, machines, and grinders in the Journal — sometimes favorably, sometimes not — but those pieces are not sponsored. We are open to a small number of collaborations per year on a case-by-case basis.

Drops and Availability

What is a drop?

A drop is a finite release. Each drop contains six to ten objects, each tied to an editorial issue of NINE DIALED JOURNAL, and is available for a defined window. When the window closes, the drop closes. We do not run a perpetual catalog.

How often are there drops?

Four drops per year, roughly quarterly. Drop 01 (“First Pull”) launches in the brand's first season. Drop 02 (“The Bench”), Drop 03 (“Cold Brew”), and Drop 04 (“Anniversary”) follow on a quarterly cadence. Subscribe to NINE DIALED JOURNAL to be notified before each drop opens.

Will sold-out objects come back?

Most will not. A small number of “always-on” objects — the standard heavyweight tee in Bone, the demitasse mug, and the Channel Cap — are restocked continuously. Drop-specific objects sell through and close. We may revisit a piece in a future drop in a new colorway or material, but we do not guarantee restocks of any specific SKU.

Can I be added to a waitlist?

There is no waitlist for individual sold-out objects. Subscribe to NINE DIALED JOURNAL to receive the drop calendar and pre-drop previews. That is the best way to be ready when a piece returns or a new one releases.

Do you ever run sales or promo codes?

No. NINE DIALED does not discount. We do not run Black Friday sales, end-of-season clearance, flash sales, or first-order discount codes. The price you see is the price the object is sold at. Pricing discipline is part of the brand.

Sizing and Materials

How do your tees fit?

Our heavyweight tees use a structured U.S. ringspun cotton at 6.5 to 7 ounces. The fit is intentionally close to the wearer with a slight drop shoulder — not boxy, not skin-tight. A size guide with chest, length, and shoulder measurements is on every apparel product page. If you are between sizes, size up; the cotton holds its shape after washing.

How should I wash NINE DIALED apparel?

Cold, inside out, gentle cycle. Tumble dry low or hang dry. Do not iron directly on printed areas. Do not bleach. Pretreat oil stains promptly with cold water and mild detergent. Following this routine will keep the print and the cotton looking the way they did out of the package for years.

Are the framed prints real frames or printed-on?

Real frames. Black solid-wood molding, glass front, paper-mat where appropriate, ready to hang. The print itself is produced on premium archival paper using high-resolution printing. Each frame is assembled to order; we are not selling stock prints with printed-on borders.

What is the framing like up close?

Editorial-grade — better than the typical mass-market poster frame, not equivalent to a gallerist's custom-conservation framing. The wood is matte-finished. The glass is standard acrylic or glass depending on size. Hardware for hanging is included. For pieces above 24×36 we recommend two-point wall anchors.

What does the demitasse mug actually hold?

It is sized at 6 ounces — meaningfully larger than a true Italian demitasse cup (which sits around 2 to 3 ounces) and smaller than a standard 11-ounce ceramic mug. The intent is a cup that takes a doppio with room to add a small amount of water, or a cortado-sized milk drink. The name is a wink at the form factor more than a literal claim.

Are your products made in the United States?

Apparel blanks are sourced from U.S. and international mills depending on the model — Cotton Heritage tees are U.S.-grown and U.S.-cut, Yupoong caps are imported. All printing, embroidery, and final fulfillment for U.S. orders are completed at our partner's U.S. facilities. International orders may be produced at a regional facility closer to the destination to reduce shipping emissions and time in transit.

Orders, Shipping, Returns

How long does shipping take?

Apparel and accessories are produced on demand. Production takes 2 to 5 business days. Domestic U.S. shipping takes an additional 3 to 5 business days. Framed prints take 5 to 7 business days to produce because of the frame assembly step. International orders take 7 to 14 business days total. Tracking is provided in your shipping confirmation email.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. International orders are charged actual shipping at checkout. Customs duties, taxes, and import fees are the responsibility of the recipient and are not collected by NINE DIALED. We are unable to estimate these for you in advance — your local customs authority can. Shipping to most countries is enabled; a few are restricted by our fulfillment partner.

What is your return policy?

Apparel and accessories: 30 days from delivery, unworn, unwashed, in original packaging, with return shipping paid by the customer. Framed prints, art prints, and other print-on-demand artwork: returnable only in the case of manufacturing defect or shipping damage. See the Shipping & Returns page for the full procedure.

My order arrived damaged. What do I do?

Email hello@ninedialed.com within 14 days of delivery. Include your order number and photographs of the damage to both the object and the packaging. We will arrange a replacement or refund at no cost. Do not return the damaged item until you receive instructions.

Can I cancel or change an order after placing it?

If your order has not yet entered production, yes. Email hello@ninedialed.com with your order number as soon as possible. Once production has started — typically within 24 hours of order placement — changes are not possible because the object is being made specifically for you.

Why is shipping not free?

It is, once your order is $75 or more. Below that, we charge the actual cost charged to us by the carrier. We prefer transparent pricing to padded product prices designed to hide shipping. If you would like to qualify for free shipping, a tee plus a cap, or a mug plus a tee, generally clears the threshold.

NINE DIALED JOURNAL

What is NINE DIALED JOURNAL?

The editorial extension of the brand — a weekly email publication on home espresso. Technique deep-dives, equipment reviews, sourcing notes, longer essays. Free. Ungated. The Journal is how drops are announced and how the brand stays itself across time.

Is the Journal really free?

Yes. Subscription costs nothing. We do not paywall the content. We do not sell or share your email address. The Journal is the brand's most direct line to the people who care about what we do, which makes its quality worth the work.

How often does it send?

Weekly during normal operations. Occasionally an additional issue is sent around a drop opening. We hold to the schedule unless there is something genuinely worth saying; we do not pad.

Can I read back issues?

Yes. The Journal index on ninedialed.com lists every published issue. New subscribers receive a welcome email that links to a handful of foundational pieces — start there if you are catching up.

How do I unsubscribe?

An unsubscribe link is in the footer of every issue. One click and you are out. You can also email hello@ninedialed.com and we will remove you. We do not run win-back sequences begging you to reconsider.

Custom Work and Wholesale

Do you take custom orders?

Generally no. NINE DIALED is built around the drop catalog rather than custom work. We occasionally accept commissions for editorial-style prints of specific machines for serious collectors or shops; minimum spend applies. Inquiries: studio@ninedialed.com.

Do you wholesale?

To a small number of carefully chosen specialty coffee shops and design retailers, yes. Inquire at wholesale@ninedialed.com with your shop name, location, current brands carried, and a sentence on why NINE DIALED fits your customer. We respond to all inquiries.

Do you do collaborations with roasters and equipment brands?

Two or three per year, on a case-by-case basis, with brands whose work overlaps with ours editorially. Inquiries: studio@ninedialed.com. We do not do whitelabel manufacturing, affiliate programs, or coupon-code partnerships.

Can I license a NINE DIALED print for my café?

Licensing inquiries are welcome. Email studio@ninedialed.com with the print, the venue, and how it will be used. Pricing is established case by case and is meaningfully higher than the consumer retail price because commercial display licensing is a different right than a private purchase.

Sustainability and Production

Why print-on-demand?

Print-on-demand has two real advantages for a brand at our scale. First, no overproduction — every object made is an object ordered. We do not warehouse inventory we may or may not sell. Second, lower fixed risk means we can hold a tighter standard on what we ship; we do not need to clear last season's surplus by discounting the brand.

Is print-on-demand sustainable?

More sustainable than traditional production-and-warehousing in some respects (no overproduction, no waste-as-inventory) and less sustainable in others (each order ships individually rather than in bulk). The honest answer is that no production model in apparel is truly sustainable today. We try to make objects worth keeping and worth wearing for years, which is the most meaningful lever we have.

Where are the materials sourced?

Cotton tees: U.S.-grown, U.S.-spun ringspun cotton from Cotton Heritage. Caps: Yupoong, imported. Mugs and ceramics: produced in the U.S. through our fulfillment partner. Framed prints: U.S.-assembled with solid-wood frames and archival paper. We are happy to send the specific source on any product on request — write to hello@ninedialed.com.
